Kicking The Soda Habit

diet-coke-21
All my life I’ve been a diet coke drinker.  I mean I used to drink a ton of it and over the years cut back but not nearly enough.  It was something I always done and always had to have.  People didn’t see me EVER without a soda.
I truly didn’t realize the effects that much soda had on my body.  Sure you can read numerous reports on this but it didn’t sink in till I quit drinking soda and saw the difference for myself.  I found a few images that I felt covered the overall effects of drinking soda

I can happily report that it’s been 1 week, since I last drank soda.  It amazing how much better I feel, I’m not as achy, & how little I miss it.  I originally started replacing soda with this sparkling flavored water but now I drink water during the day and my sparkling flavored water at night.  I’m slowly adding more water to my diet each day.  Every time I try to increase my water intake by tons overnight, it never works for me.  So each day I add another glass of water I need to drink till I reach my goal of 7-8 glasses of water per day.  But be warned, the first few days are awful, I could barely get outta my bed to do anything, since I had absolutely no energy, I mean none.  I plan on doing another posts talking about the effects of soda & what to expect.
This year I had a goal of implementing healthier habits into my life, which in turn will help me lose & maintain my weight once I reach my goal.  I began eating healthier by changing out some foods I eat for their healthy counterpart.  But having a soda habit, makes my attempts seemed pointless.  That’s when I decided it was time to say good-bye to my time friend after 26 years.

“When there’s enough will, we can accomplish anything we previously thought we couldn’t.”

If I can do this, anyone can 🙂
Do you have a habit you need to quit that’s been hard to do?  Or have you successfully quit?

  1. I also used to be a Diet Coke addict and have tried many times to stop drinking it. I finally succeeded about 3 months ago and it was hard going, just as you mention here! I am glad I stuck with it though, I feel so much better and have completely lost my taste for it.

    • Thanks.
It is hard when you love the taste, which is why it took me so long to give it up. Good for you for cutting down. At the worst of times i used to go through a 12 pack in a day or less. As I’m thinking about that, I’m surprised my body didn’t shut down completely. So 2 a day is great. If your goal is to give it up, your almost there 🙂
Thanks for stopping by and visiting.

  2. Thank you for posting this. I needed it. I’m addicted to Diet Dr. Pepper….

It helps that you just stopped drinking it and say it’s hard at first but that you can already tell a difference. I will try for one week. (Baby goals…) Thanks for the encouragement to try.

I found you at Flash Blog. 🙂

    • Glad it could help you.
Yes the 1st few days were hard. I had a hard time getting out of bed because I was just insanely tired. I can’t tell you just how exhausted I was. But I was lucky enough not to get headaches, which people can get sometimes. But once I hit day 5 I felt a ton better. Yes, you should try for a week. And see how it goes. I hope it works for you and you can stop drinking it. I know it took me a long time to do this but I’m so happy I did. Thanks for stopping by & visiting 🙂

  3. I rarely ever crave soda pop. The habit I have trouble breaking is the fact that I eat huge amounts of food…constantly. Lol I just love the stuff so much! I used to be one of those people who would go to a buffet and think “I have to get my money’s worth.” Then I would leave feeling miserable. Actually, I have a much better grip on portion control these days. It can be hard work to make healthy choices!
